Metamorphics is Australia's only independent Aesthetic Surgery and Surgical Imaging Planning Consultancy.
Established in 1990, Metamorphics provides accurate pre-operative imaging and a professional patient advisory service for all aesthetic (cosmetic) and reconstructive facial surgery.
Founder, Ann Emslie, has more than 20 years experience as a clinical advisor in Aesthetic, Reconstructive and Paediatric plastic surgery.  Ann conducts all bookings and consultations personally to maintain the highest level of confidentiality on your behalf.
Metamorphics is recommended by - and works exclusively with - leading fully accredited Plastic, Maxillofacial and Nasal (ENT) surgeons.

Everyone considering cosmetic surgery should take a realistic and practical approach to understanding their goals and reasons for electing to make physical changes.

Surgical results take time to settle.  Your new look will be gradual, so be prepared for a period of adjustment while swelling subsides.

Advertising and media promotions may be misleading, so like any other life decision it is essential to research the step you are about to take.

Metamorphics has been established as an Independent Consultancy to provide people with the opportunity to do this.   Consultations provide valuable information for your surgeon to assess and confirm your objectives, and give you skills to fully understand the detailed information provided by your surgeon.

This service is dedicated to achieving the best possible results for every patient.  It should not be confused with imaging services which may be used to merely alter a photograph in the interests of encouraging people to proceed with surgery.

  • Discuss your areas of concern and assist you to understand your options

  • Review your preferences and establish achievable surgical goals

  • Teach you about aesthetic principles and procedures

  • Print A4 colour photographs of results with measured diagrams for you and your surgeon

  • Assist you to select and evaluate the most appropriate surgeons

  • Provide independent professional advice in conjunction with leading accredited Plastic, Maxillofacial & Nasal surgeons

  • Give you confidence that you are well prepared to make the right decisions

Metamorphics uses specialised computer technology to:

  • Review areas of concern

  • Accurately assess, measure and project facial and body proportions

  • Illustrate the physical changes involved

  • Animate proposed changes

  • Provide the knowledge required to make informed decisions

  • Print results

Independent professional advice will prepare you to make the right decisions.

Attractive features are the result of balancing proportions to create facial harmony.  Often these changes are small.  Metamorphics allows you to explore your ideas.

The knowledge you gain will assist to you understand information provided by surgeons.  Surgeons will also understand your goals and be able to confirm your results.

At Metamorphics we design achievable outcomes for surgery, and provide detailed information on procedures, anatomy and correct aesthetic proportions.

Metamorphics offers an extended consultation with an independent, experienced clinical advisor - providing the opportunity to discuss, evaluate and review your goals.   You will also learn how to appreciate procedures and outcomes offered by surgeons.

We use specialised imaging techniques to photograph, change and review images to illustrate and measure the most appropriate procedures.  Clients can look at animated images of various sections of the face or body in relationship to other areas. Our explanations, diagrams and measurements provide detailed material for increased understanding of information presented during surgical consultations.

We print A4 high resolution digital color photographs of all results at the time of consultation, for you to review.  These include scaled measurements for your surgeon for appropriate procedures - e.g. rhinoplasty, chin and cheek augmentation

Rhinoplasty is one of the most frequently requested procedures.  A nose that is out of proportion with other facial features draws visual attention.  Balancing the nose allows it to be in harmony with the face, directing the initial focus to the eyes and overall personality.

If the nose is too small or too short it can be even more obvious than a large or long nose, so it is important to aim for a natural look.

Rhinoplasty often involves very small changes to create the desired facial balance.  People who focus on the nose often see it as a single element rather than taking into account the proportion with the whole face and body.

Understanding desired outcomes is vital for both patient and surgeon. Currently 30% of Metamorphics' rhinoplasty (nose surgery) clients are having revision (secondary) surgery.

There are many reasons for this:

  • Recent improvements in rhinoplasty techniques

  • Metamorphics' clients are referred by leading specialists who have been selected for their skill in rhinoplasty

  • Tendency to make noses too small in previous years

  • Removing a "bump" without making proportional modification to the tip

  • Embarking on surgery with limited information for the first procedure

  • Surgeons have not had enough initial information to understand the patient's goals

  • Patients have not researched the procedure and surgical qualifications prior to surgery

There will always be a small percentage of noses requiring minor adjustment after 12 months.  This is an expected variation in the way individual tissues settle after surgery.  Your surgeon will discuss this with you.

There are several options available for better chin and jaw support.

A chin implant  (augmentation ) will provide a subtle change - often provided as a balance to the face in conjunction with rhinoplasty.

Patients who require more than 5 - 7 mm, may need an advancement genioplasty.  (See image).  This involves moving the bone in the chin forward.

The most dramatic change will be provided by moving the lower jaw forward (or back) often done with a genioplasty.  These two procedures are usually performed by Maxillofacial surgeons.

Many patients have under developed upper jaws. The upper jaw is an important support for the base of the nose.  Careful consideration should be given to the order of surgery if both jaw and rhinoplasty surgery are being considered, and the position of the lower third of the nose will change if the upper jaw (maxilla) is moved forward.

The aging process results in laxity of the facial skin and muscles, and often loss of supporting fat.  This gravitation from the middle third of the face to the lower third and jaw line tends to make people look sad or tired.  Similarly the lack of brow support and slackening of eyelid skin can give the appearance of tiredness or anger.

Most people want to return to a fresher, more youthful look without changing dramatically.  "To look like I feel".

We take the whole face into account when assessing facial rejuvenation, to achieve a result where the face appears the same age in all areas.

People with a small jaw or chin notice significant signs of aging in this area first with dimpling and loose skin at the chin and neckline.  Sometimes a small implant at the jaw line provides an enhancement and better support for the facelift. Other patients may require advancement of the bone in the chin, or the lower jaw.

During consultation we therefore make changes in a number of areas so we can look at the elements separately and as a whole - to decide which are most appropriate procedures.
